GROTON CROFT IS A PRIVATE PROPERTY OWNED BY THE GROTON WINTHEROP MULBERRY TRUST, A REGISTERED CHARITY.
IT WAS PURCHASED IN 1993, WITH FUNDS RAISED LOCALLY AND A GRANT FROM BABERGH DISTRICT COUNCIL, TO PROTECT AND PRESERVE A HISTORIC MULBERRY TREE AND TO PROVIDE A PERMANENT OPEN SPACE FOR QUIET ENJOYMENT AND RECREATION BY VILLAGE RESIDENTS AND VISITORS. THE PROPERTY IS MANAGED AND MAINTAINED BY THE TRUST FOR THESE PURPOSES AND PROVIDE AN ENVIRONMENT FOR THE ENCOURAGEMENT AND CONSERVATION OF WILD PLANTS AND WILDLIFE.
THE TRUST IS FUNDED SOLELY THROUGH DONATIONS RECEIVED FROM RESIDENTS AND VISITORS.
DOGS UNDER CONTROL ARE ALLOWED ON THE CROFT BUT HORSES, CYCLES, MOTORCYCLES AND OTHER VEHICLES ARE NOT PERMITTED. FURTHER INFORMATION ABOUT THE MULBERRY TREE IS ON THE NOTICE BOARD ADJACENT TO THE TREE IN THE CENTRE OF THE FIELD.
